Produce Share Bagging Guidelines

Seed to Table will provide small, plastic bags for salad mix, arugula and spinach only and will ask customers to bag their own of these types of greens. We strongly encourage customers to wash and reuse these bags from week to week. These bags are 10” by 18” and 1 share of greens is 8 oz. We welcome you to reuse and bring in clean bags and containers you have at home - produce bags from the grocery store, bread bags, gallon ziplock bags, clamshells from store-bought greens, take-out containers from restaurants, etc.  We will have a scale available for you to weigh out your 8 oz. of greens in the bag/container of your choosing. We also welcome you to bring clean, plastic food storage containers and load your greens directly into those. We find that salad greens will last a couple weeks when stored in tightly sealed food storage containers in the fridge. Aim for a container with a capacity of at least 1 quart (4 cups, 32 oz.) as 8 oz. of greens will be more in volume. Here are a few great options:

We ask that you only use the small, plastic bags for bagging salad greens!

For other veggies like potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, bunched herbs, bunched greens, etc., you may want to bring some larger mesh produce bags like these:

Larger plastic food storage containers like this also work well for storing kale, chard, and herbs:

For small, loose veggies like snap peas, tomatillos, cherry tomatoes, and lunchbox peppers, Seed to Table will sometimes provide small, paper bags. Again, we welcome you to bring your own bags or containers for these veggies.

To bring home your entire veggie bounty, we (surprise, surprise) welcome you to bring your own reusable grocery and tote bags. Also welcome are boxes, coolers, baskets, backpacks, pockets… However you would like to transport your veggies home is up to you, but Seed to Table will not be providing plastic or paper grocery bags. We may occasionally have boxes if you are really in a pickle. Please let a staff member know if you need help carrying your veggies to your car, especially in the fall as veggies get heavier.

Please share this information with anyone who may be picking up your share for you!

Thank you so much for helping Seed to Table cut back on single-use plastics. We may not be single-use plastic free, but together we can reduce our dependence on this type of packaging.
